Can I Predict How Tall My Child Will Be?

Can I Predict How Tall My Child Will Be?

Many “formulas” claim to help predict your child's adult height, but these calculations are at best reasonable guesses. Generally, genetic factors (i.e., the parents' heights) have the most significant influence on a child's adult height. Here is a popular prediction formula that takes genetic factors into account:

  1. Add the heights of both parents.
  2. Divide the result by 2.
  3. If it's a boy, add 6.4 cm to the result. If it's a girl, subtract 6.4 cm.

Another frequently used formula is to double the child's height at age 3. This can also be used to roughly estimate how tall the child will be as an adult.
