Coxsackievirus, a type of enterovirus, usually does not cause serious illness in most cases. It typically results in mild symptoms such as fever, rash, sore throat, joint pain, headache, and these symptoms usually last about a week. Young children are the most susceptible to infection.
There is no specific treatment for Coxsackievirus infection. Antibiotics are ineffective against viruses. Doctors generally recommend plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and using over-the-counter pain relievers or fever reducers if necessary.
If severe symptoms such as severe headache, joint pain, or high fever occur, immediate medical attention should be sought.
