Drinks containing high-fructose corn syrup, such as certain soft drinks and energy drinks, can increase uric acid levels in the blood. This is because fructose metabolism produces uric acid.
Beer and spirits contain purines, which metabolize into uric acid in the body. Beer, in particular, has a high purine content and can increase uric acid levels, leading to gout.
Other than high-fructose drinks, sugary drinks can also negatively impact uric acid levels. Sugar metabolism can interfere with the excretion of uric acid.
Although fruit juices are rich in vitamins and minerals, certain juices (especially concentrated and processed ones) contain high fructose, and excessive consumption can raise uric acid levels.
Some dairy alternatives, such as almond milk and soy milk, can also raise uric acid levels if they contain high-fructose sweeteners.
