Sometimes it's hard to detect signs and symptoms of suicidal thoughts or self-harm. Children may not directly tell you about these thoughts. Here are some signs that a child's condition may be worsening, or they may be at risk of self-harm:

Make sure the child does not stop antidepressant treatment without guidance from the prescribing doctor. Suddenly stopping antidepressants can cause flu-like symptoms, increased anxiety, and other side effects known as discontinuation syndrome. It can also lead to a relapse of depression symptoms. Gradual tapering is the safest approach.
